Education & Support
Practical guides, planning checklists, and grief support resources to help families navigate one of life's most difficult moments.
What To Do When a Loved One Passes Away
Notify the Authorities
If the death occurred at home, contact a doctor or emergency services to certify the death. If in hospital, the hospital will handle certification.
Contact a Funeral Home
Reach out to Funeral Assist 24 immediately on +27 82 708 2304. We are available 24/7 and will guide you through every next step.
Obtain the Death Certificate
The doctor or hospital issues a death notification. This must be taken to the Department of Home Affairs to register the death and obtain an official death certificate.
Inform Family & Employer
Notify close family members and, where applicable, the employer of the deceased to begin any leave or insurance processes.
Secure the Estate
Secure the home and valuables of the deceased. Contact a lawyer or the Master of the High Court if there is a will or estate to administer.
Submit Your Claim
Contact your policy provider with the death certificate, ID of the deceased, and beneficiary details to begin the funeral benefit payout process.
Funeral Planning Checklist
Use this checklist to make sure nothing is overlooked during a difficult time.
